"If I'd have known"

I remember seeing an interview with Madonna, you remember, that 80's singer/dancer/personality? She was a big deal back then. Anyway, I watched her being interviewed, and she said something that rang true. "If I'd have known how hard this would be, I'd never have started."

The interview asked, "Never have started what?"

"A singing career," Madonna shot back.

Wow, I remember thinking. If she thought her career was hard, what do people think that 'haven't' made it think? She had it all in those days. Attention, hit records, most played videos on VHS1 and MTV, money, fame, oh yeah, she also starred in some big movies.

So, as I sit and write my series of books, and fail, and edit, and rewrite and get notes and fail again, I pause. I guess anything you are passionate about challenges, pushes you to extremes, demands the best out of you.

So why the picture of a duck? Granted a beautiful one, but still. Michael Caine said it, "Be like a duck graceful on top but peddling like hell underneath."
