Blog Post: Yoga with Dogs
I have taken on walking my pups, Kima and Whiskey, both nine months old. We walk a healthy 45-50 minutes around the neighborhood. Our neighborhood is full of trees and spectacular views of mountains. Oh, and very few cars. I love it.
I did the walk to give them exercise and wear them out. But I'm finding they love our time together and ask for it. When we come home I get on the elliptical and do 30 minutes more. (Don't be impressed, I'm over 60 and we need lots of movement just to not gain a ton of weight.) Then I do about 10 minutes of yoga. Or I try to do 10 minutes of yoga.
Yoga is apparently the signal for my dogs to play! With me. They roll under my stomach while I plank and love it when I do downward facing dog. It's fun. It takes effort to smile and remain cool. I realized what is the use if I get all tangled up wanting to execute a perfect yoga practice and yell at the dogs while doing it?
Isn't that what yoga is for? To learn patience, compassion and, love. So I laugh, which only encourages the pups to play more with me. They love it when I laugh.
It's great.
